Tucked away in a Garland strip mall, Marlo's House can easily be described as a hidden gem. Owners Mark and Lori Petryk, however, choose to describe it as the "best Mennonite restaurant this side of Belt Line." Opened in 2004, the restaurant makes everything from scratch and its menu offers Pennsylvania Dutch dishes like the Klopps steak -- a klopps patty covered in cream gravy and sautéed onions with a choice of side (potato, vegetables or cole slaw) and a slice of honey rye bread. Be forewarned that the the restaurant does not sell alcoholic beverages, which follows from the fact that Mennonites don't drink. But they are a tolerant people and the Petryks will kindly serve you one complimentary beer or glass of wine, or you can BYOB.
