Throw a rock in Dallas and odds are you’ll hit a Mexican restaurant, and it would be hard to think of a name less designed to stand out from the crowd than “RJ Mexican Cuisine.” But stand out it does, thanks to the West End eatery’s classy take on familiar Tex-Mex standards. A cacophony of fresh peppers and veggies livens up the tacos and quesadillas, and if you want to stray even further, there are unexpected offerings like pan-seared tuna and tender barbecue ribs. The hip vibe extends to the décor, a modern but distinctively Mexican space with comfortable booths and a big patio. Maybe the yawn-inducing name and the languishing location wind up being a plus, because it’s still easy to get a table at what ought to be a runaway hit.
