As was previously reported, the pair of shows Tripping Daisy was supposed to play at the Curtain Club on November 12 and 13 will not happen. Instead, both nights have been changed to benefits for the family of guitarist Wes Berggren, who died on October 27. According to Julie Doyle -- the band's manager and singer Tim DeLaughter's longtime girlfriend -- the benefits came about because "bands really wanted to pay their respects to Wes." The lineup on Friday includes Dutch Treats, Centro-matic, and Captain Audio; Saturday features Jet Screamer, Little Jack Melody and his Young Turks, and Baboon. Tripping Daisy rarities will be played between each set. The other four members of Tripping Daisy -- DeLaughter, bassist Mark Pirro, drummer Ben Curtis, and guitarist Phil Karnats -- will be in attendance on both nights. Before the bands perform on Friday and Saturday, there will be a slide show, accompanied by the Daisy's forthcoming self-titled album. The disc is still scheduled to be released early next year, but the date has been pushed back slightly to accommodate the inclusion of a few new tracks recorded two weeks ago...
XPO Lounge hosts the latest in Forbidden Books owner Jason Cohen's Drive-In Trash series on November 17, with a screening of 1964's Spider Baby, a film that, apparently, is notable mainly for including Lon Chaney Jr.'s last sober performance. The Immaculates will perform before and after the film, which begins at 9 p.m...
Crash Vinyl will officially release its debut album, Precious Platinum, on November 18 at Club Clearview. Of course, if you can't wait quite that long, copies of the record will also be available when the band performs with The Deathray Davies -- with Crash Vinyl singer Kevyn Ingle on full-body-contact tambourine -- at Sushi Nights on November 12.
