Future to Make Yet Another Visit to Dallas to Headline JMBLYA in May
Future just can't stay away from Dallas these days.
It's about time we made this official: Future seems to have a thing for Dallas. The Atlanta rap superstar has been making it a habit of visiting our city, with at least three appearances in the past year, including headlining the Rageville Festival at The Bomb Factory last October. He'll be back next week to play South Side Ballroom on March 11 and, as of this morning, there will be a fifth visit come May when he headlines JMBLYA.
This is a big deal for JMBLYA, which is entering its fifth year as a teen-friendly hip-hop festival. After weeks of teasing the lineup in small increments with blind pre-sale ticket discounts, the Austin-based promoter ScoreMore announced that Future will headline the two-day, two-city Texas tour which hits Dallas Friday, May 13.
Besides, Future (whose real name is Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn) has been pretty well everywhere of late and still had the time to pump out a high volume of new music, including Purple Reign and Evol in 2016 alone. So who knows how much more new material he’ll have to perform by the time May rolls around.
Post Malone will bring some hometown pride to JMBLYA.
Future's name is added to a hip-hop bill that features Rae Sremmurd, Kevin Gates, Kehlani and Keith Ape. DJs Carnage and Noodles round out the EDM side of the bill. Perhaps most pertinent to local fans will be the appearance of Grapevine native Post Malone, who was recently featured on the Kanye West track "Fade" from The Life of Pablo.
The announcement confirms JMBLYA as a staple in Dallas’ festival season lineup. Past performers have included Travis $cott, Chance The Rapper, Big Boi, RL Grime, Baauer, Metro Boomin and Partynextdoor.
JMBLYA takes place in the third different location in as many years. In the past three years the festival has grown. Its crowds swelled past the capacities of Main Street Garden Park in 2014 and Deep Ellum Outdoor space last year. This time, the day-long festival will be held at the Cotton Bowl Plaza at Fair Park. Tickets for the event are on sale at jmblya.com, starting at $55 with VIP packages available.
