If you're a fan of One Tree Hill, there's a good chance you already have your ticket for Saturday's show at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios in Denton. But if not, you might just save a few bucks on the cover.
What do Dove Hunter, Shiny Around The Edges and Dust Congress, who share a 10 p.m. bill, have to do with a CW teen drama? Not a thing, far as I know. I'm talking about Saturday's 6 p.m. early show with Wakey! Wakey!, the classical-inspired pop-rock vehicle for singer/pianist Michael Grubbs. Wakey! Wakey!'s "War Sweater" added a much-needed touch of melodrama to this Season 6 finale emergency-room scene--because the slow-motion, flashbacks, blood and Christ imagery just needed something else to put the scene over the top. The song was so beloved by the show's audience that the writers invited him to join the cast as a bartender for Season 7.
Opening the set is a solo set from Denton pop singer/songwriter (and founding Polyphonic Spree French horn player) Andrew Tinker. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The show is $8 for 21 and up and $10 for under 21--and free for the first person who e-mails me with the subject "Eggs and Bakey!" Don't forget to include your full name. The winner will have her (or possibly his, I guess) name plus-one on the guest list.
Update: Contest is over. Congratulations to the winner.
