While it might be the most obviously named rock and roll sextet in history, Detroit’s Electric Six is still quite capable of making out-of-the-ordinary music. The band’s mix of garage, disco, punk, new wave and metal might indeed be a bit too multi-faceted for some folks, but the devil may care eclecticism suits me just fine.

Electric Six’s most recent opus, the appropriately titled Flashy, features an ode to the band’s favorite cleaning solution (“Formula 409”) and politically incorrect fare as “Gay Bar, Part Two” and “We Were Witchy White Women.” Singer Dick Valentine shouts along like a barker in front of a XXX film festival as the band (which has gone through several personnel changes since its inception in 2002) charges full steam ahead into any style that suits its fancy. Sometimes, the lack of any restraint whatsoever begins to wear out the band’s welcome, but the tongue-in-cheek humor saves the day (nearly) every time.
Hell, any band that can title an album I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Being The Master sure has a handle on the complexities that confront our nation at this time.
And we've got three pairs of tickets to give away to the band's show at the Granada with Local H tonight. First three people to email Pete with "I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me That Restricts Me From Getting These Tickets" in the subject line each get a pair. Good luck.
Update: Contest is over. Congrats to our winners. --Darryl Smyers
