It's a big weekend for music indeed. A lot of holiday parties are going on, the biggest of which is being put on by The Polyphonic Spree, who, as you can see from the above video of them doing "Dancey Dance Time" with Yo Gabba Gabba, are quite kid-friendly. In fact, they're encouraging fans to bring their kids to the Lakewood Theater on Saturday night for their Holiday Extravaganza, where they'll have real snow, zoo animals, and photos with Santa.
Tonight, Jonathan Byrd will be at Uncle Calvin's Coffee House, and Bettysoo will be at All Good Cafe. Also, Ray Wylie Hubbard will be at the Kessler Theater, and Larry Gee will celebrate the release of his new record at The Prophet Bar. Oh yeah, Elkhart will play at City Tavern, and Exit 380 will release their new record at Lola's Saloon tonight and at Dada tomorrow. Should you find yourself in Denton, hit up Dead Week at Rubber Gloves for performances by Datahowler, Botany and Summer of Glaciers.
On Saturday, Digitalism will be at Granada Theater with Dub Assembly and Data Romance, and Chicago is performing some sort of Christmas show at Allen Event Center. Also, bring your flashlight to El Sibil, where Ocelot, Mystery Skulls and Analog Rebellion are performing at a flashlight party.
And on Sunday, Trans-Siberian Orchestra will perform their speed metal Christmas songs at Amercian Airlines Center.

It's surprising to see this one-hit-wonder still on the road. Last time they came to town, they only drew a double-digit crowd to Trees. Let's hope for the bartender's sake that they do better this time.

Funny man Dave Little's show consists of a blend of stand-up comedy and music. He's got more than a handful of hilarious songs under his belt and he's ready to unleash them on the unsuspecting crowd at Bryan Street Tavern. Go see his show tonight, but just a word of warning, your face will hurt from laughing.
Power Trip, RZL DZL, Hoodrat, Modern Pain, Nigh
Friday, December 9, at Queen City Hall
Seems that lately Parade of Flesh has been promoting more indie rock bands and less metal acts, which makes this show with Dallas-based punk and thrash metal act Power Trip an even bigger deal. Not to mention that it will take place at the new Queen City Hall venue.
A Brand Spanking New Greenville Avenue Block Party
Saturday, December 10, all over Lowest Greenville
Greenville Avenue is in the middle of a facelift, and to celebrate the strip's new look, several bars, stores and restaurants are throwing a block party. At venues up and down the strip from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m., bands like New Fumes, Missile, Dove Hunter, Playlister P, and many more will perform.
The Virgin Wolves, The Nicholsons

Gritty blues act The Virgin Wolves have been relatively silent as of late. They came out of the gates at the end of 2010 with their self-titled EP. Rumor has it that they've got another one that will be released soon, so expect to hear some new songs at their show tomorrow night.
Christmas w/ Josh Caterer (Smoking Popes)

One of the original pop-punk acts from the '90s, Smoking Popes, have released six studio albums that span a two-decade career, including 2011's This Is Only a Test. This show, however, is billed as an acoustic Christmas performance from Josh Caterer. It'll be interesting to see how it goes over.
A Spune Christmas

There will be two Spune Christmas celebrations this year: one in Denton and one in Dallas next week. The one in Denton this weekend will be headlined by Seryn with help from fellow Denton-based Spune artists Bethan, Doug Burr and Spooky Folk, as well as The Angelus and Volt Revolt. Also, most importantly, there will be free tamales and $1 Coors while supplies last.
