The latest sign of local "stonegaze" (their word, not mine) band True Widow breaking through into the big time is the fact that their forthcoming album, Circumambulation, appeared this morning on Pitchfork Advance, the all-encompassing music website's album preview listening section. It's slated for release on July 23, but you can listen to the whole thing here. I also have a fact for you -- "Circumambulation" means the act of moving around a sacred object or idol. So, since you opened this page you've learned two things. That's a better ratio than most of the Internet combined.
The soon-to-be-released album is of course being issued by Relapse, a stoner-rock all-star label that features nationally renowned luminaries like Red Fang, Baroness, Black Tusk and Coalesce. You can catch them on their next swing through their hometown at Dada on August 7, supporting Naam. That may well be your last chance to see them in a relatively small venue, if their stellar recent trajectory is anything to go by. Of course, they were recently added to the Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup as well. Heady times for a Dallas band.
