The healing powers of music can be breathtaking. Most music lovers know this intuitively, but as research increasingly draws a link between music and its restorative powers, folks like Music is Our Weapon have science on their side to help their cause. The Dallas-based charity, founded last year by JP Maloney and Ashley Brightwell, sees music's capacity for memory reclamation as a means to help local Azlheimer's patients, and they're doing it with iPods.

MIOW collects donated iPods and delivers them to North Texas nursing facilities to be used by patients being treated for Alzheimer's and dementia. When they make their deliveries, they're joined by a crew of volunteers who visit the patients and help them get comfortable with their new music-listening devices.

Dallas Observer writer Eva Raggio reported on MIOW and the work they do earlier in the year, but recently videographer Sarah Passon joined Maloney on one of his crew's deliveries to catch them in action. Here's what she saw:
