Wild 'n' Out
Spune me: Don't shoot your wad at the ACL Fest this September, as Spune Productions Wall of Sound Festival is slated for the weekend after (Saturday, September 22, to be exact). In their ever-teasing ways, the Spune-ites are revealing the lineup in a series of announcements rather than all at once. First round confirmees: Explosions in the Sky, Midlake, Ghostland Observatory, Pinback, The Books, The Sword, Bobby Bare Jr. , Brothers and Sisters, Eleven Hundred Springs, Lymbyc System, Baptist Generals, Timeout Drawer, Peter and the Wolf, Black Tie Dynasty, White Denim, OM and the Weary Boys. The fest will smush 40 bands into one day and three stages at Fort Worth's LaGrave Field, home of the minor-league baseball team the Fort Worth Cats (luv them Cats!). Check www.wallofsoundfestival.com or www.spune.com for more details. Tickets are available at Good Records, Bill's Records and CD World, and are on sale now.
Quiet riot : Tame...Tame and Quiet celebrate the release of their CD Tin Can Communicate with a series of Texas shows. Gotta haul down to Austin for the official Austin release at Mohawk on Friday, July 6 , and the disc is available in Dallas at Good Records and CD World; in Denton at Recycled Books and Music, and Hastings; in Arlington at CD Warehouse; and in Fort Worth at CD Warehouse.
Handstamps : The Josh Daniels Band has a new video from their almost equally new album at www.myspace.com/thejoshdanielsband . Scroll down to see the "Goodbye" video. Josh will also perform for the governor of the Chickasaw Nation when he opens for Joe Nichols on June 30 at Winstar Casino... As if the wack-ass stylings of Faux Fox and Ghosthustler weren't enough to blow your cabeza, the event known simply as The Party will feature bitchin' psychedelic visuals as well, along with DJ sets from DJ $ELECT, DJ SOB3R and DJ Nature Saturday, June 30, at the Granada. Ghosthustler, by the way, is the buzzy Denton band who gets all LCD Soundsystem on their single "Parking Lot Nights"; the video for it, of course, can be seen on Unfair Park...Not sure, honestly, whether to endorse this, but here goes: The Orchestra, which is ELO minus Jeff Lynne, which is like Happy Days without the Fonz, headlines the KLAK-97.5 FM summer concert on Saturday, June 30 (Joan Jett is scheduled for the series on August 4, FYI)...Shannon McNally seems like she's sort of being marketed as " Hot Alt-Country Gal Wearing John Deere Gimme Cap ," so it's a damn good thing she's so effin' good at singin' and songwritin'. Ten seconds after she starts her set at House of Blues on Thursday, June 28, as part of Marc Broussard's Soul Revue, you'll forget all about the cloying marketing...Nothing says patriotism like some good ol' American blues (after all, our nation was built on the backs of people who were so oppressed they invented the blues ), so celebrate the Fourth of July with Joel Foy playing early acoustic blues, Hash Brown and the Blue Royals playing early electric blues and Mike Morgan playing modern electric blues at Pearl at Commerce on Independence Day...Wild out with the multi-talented—or at least multi-tasking—Nick Cannon as he hosts Ghostbar's one-year anniversery. Yep, one whole year of miniskirts and overpriced drinks—sweet!
