A DART Police Officer Trainee Shot Himself in the Leg This Morning
DART's police force may spend more of its time tracking down fare jumpers than a typical law enforcement agency, but they are real, licensed peace officers with all the associated powers. Like carrying firearms.
A DART police trainee was learning how to use his this morning at DART PD's Corinth Street headquarters when he made a rookie mistake. An agency spokesman told CBS 11 that the officer-in-training was holstering his weapon when it fired, striking himself in the leg.
The man was taken to Methodist Hospital and, per CBS, is expected to recover. His name has not been released but, even if it is, pity will keep us from using it. Shooting oneself in the leg seems humiliating enough. No need to pile on.
