Though Leonard Davis is admitting he sucks and Martellus Bennett is hurt and the Cowboys are 1-3 and old kicker Nick Folk is booting five field goals in a win for the New York Jets, all is not lost. Not the playoffs. Not the NFC East. Nope, not even the Super Bowl.
Hate to agree with Wade Phillips more than absolutely necessary, but I too see the Cowboys as a team in need of a tweak rather than an overhaul. To me they're like an FM station just ever-so-slightly out of tune where you hear that irritating fuzz. Just a scootch to the right and presto, crystal clear reception.
Penalties will happen and opponents will make good plays, but if the Cowboys just stop the self-inflicted stuff - Bennett volleyballing a pass out of his hands for an interception or Marc Colombo producing a 15-yard fall down - I'm seeing a lot of positives.
One of those is the death of the least-feared monster in all the NFL - Dallas' supposed three-headed running back.
Tashard Choice plowed his diminished path with that game-changing fumble in the Redskins game. In the last two games he's touched the ball only twice.
And Marion Barber? Let's finally bury "The Barbarian," as he's now just a guy with neither the strength to run over defenders nor the speed to run around them.
The Cowboys need to stop being so cute on offense. The Cowboys - as you've read in this lil' corner of the blogosphere many times before - need to feature Felix Jones.
Jones touched the ball a career-high 19 times against the Titans and produced 116 yards. Barber technically started the game, but carried only six times. To me Felix needs 20-25 touches per game.
Why? Both Felix and Marion have 45 touches this season. Barber's total yards: 150. Jones' total yards: 252.
Sometimes, problems are easier to fix than you think.
