Coppell's Deputy Police Chief Resigns After Passing Around Suspect's Nude Cell Phone Pic
Back in April, Coppell Deputy Police Chief Matthew Kosec abruptly resigned from the department. He didn't give a reason, nor did the city, which said only that he'd been on administrative leave for weeks while an internal affairs investigation was conducted.
According to the report, a female cop filed a complaint against Kosec in March after the deputy chief beckoned her to his desk, where a crowd of police department employees were gathered, laughing at pictures. He told another officer to go back and show the woman a picture taken from the phone of an 18-year-old assault suspect -- the Morning News says he's a junior or senior high school football player -- showing him "nude and either touching or covering his genitals."
Kosec doesn't deny his colleague's allegations, nor does he deny that passing around nude photos was a really dumb idea. "There was no reason for her (or me, for that matter) to view the pictures," he wrote in a statement included in the investigative report, according to CBS 11. "I took an oath that prohibits this type of conduct and for that i will always be ashamed."
It will also be tough for him to find a new job, at least so long as a Google search of his name prominently features news of his resignation. So for now, according to his official LinkedIn status, he is "open to opportunities."
