Amazing. Inspiring. Pete Freedman, "Music Editor" at the Dallas Observer writes an article in the latest issue that is about Pete Freedman.
Congratulations, Pete. While local bands are struggling to keep their day jobs, pay rent at the rehearsal space, fill the van with gas, get people out to their shows and record locally, you're writing another worthless article about yourself.
When will you get the point? Get your ass off the couch and to the shows. Get a tape recorder and go talk to the artists here in Dallas about what they're doing. Go to Bishop Manor on a weeknight and talk to a few bands after they finish sweating in a $400 a month room, doing what they believe in.
Try rebuilding and nurturing the local scene instead of praising bands from Austin. If you'd only look at what talent lives here and help. Dammit, we might have a chance to make Dallas turn into what it used to be: a thriving community of artists and supporters, venues and entrepreneurs.
Your job as "Music Editor" is not to write about yourself. It's to write about Dallas music. Get it?

Great article. I think a lot of people feel the same way you do. I'm one of them. I've been a Cowboys fan since they were playing in the Cotton Bowl. But since the Jerry Jones era, my loyalty is fading fast. My biggest concern is that I don't see any hope for the future. Oh well, there's always the Texans? NOT! Keep up the good work, Richie.

I have been a Rangers fan since they moved to Arlington. I love baseball in general. I've seen the Rangers through good seasons and bad. Eventually, they will win. There are teams that took a lot longer to put together a winning team. I say, support them, be patient, and we will see the kind of winning that every team supporter wants.

Reality Bites
Hey Melissa, just in case you forgot this little factoid, people go to movies [Confessions of a Shopaholic] to escape reality, not to be reminded about how shitty the economy is. It is for this reason that movies will always do fine in a tanked economy. If it's a crappy movie, then fine, it's a crappy movie, but lighten up and talk about things like the acting and the plot rather than harping about how far removed from reality the thing is; I think that's the entire point.
