Parker County Sheriff's Department Links Another Dead Dog to a Violent Human
Dallas County Sheriff's Office
Last month, after police found a dog dead from a gunshot to the back of the head and abandoned in a cage with her 10 living, still-nursing puppies, Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler gave a general assessment of what went wrong : "We have a people problem," he said in a statement.
Just two weeks later, Parker County authorities have made an arrest in yet another dog killing. The were no gunshots this time. The dog was allegedly chucked out a window.
The investigation began in April, when police received a call about a domestic disturbance. A woman told police that she was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle while her boyfriend Marquael Greer was driving.
She told police he grabbed her small Chihuahua and violently hurled it. Parker County Sheriff's Investigator William Kirk went to the 423 mile marker off of the Interstate 20 and found the dog's corpse.
Parker County issued a warrant for Greer's arrest on June 6 on a felony charge of animal cruelty.
The arrest comes two years after another woman Greer dated reported an assault to police. Greer had allegedly pressed his hands on the woman's throat, nose and mouth, "impeding the normal breathing and circulation of the complainant's blood," according to an indictment filed in Dallas County.
Greer pleaded guilty to the assault charge and received a sentence of 10 years in prison. He got out on probation shortly afterward and stayed out despite a major close call. Last June, Greer was accused of punching a man several times in the face. Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins filed a motion to revoke his probation last summer given the new criminal charges, but then dropped it. The state ordered that Greer be released from custody last August.
The Star-Telegram notes that Greer's alleged dog killing is the fifth major animal abuse case to make headlines in Parker County this year.
