PETA's "Sexy Nude Activists"? Yeah, Not So Much. Damn You, PETA.

Kristine Hughes, associate editor of Texas Lawyer and now a good Friend of Unfair Park, sends this accounting of today's PETA nude-in downtown. Oh, but before we show you hers, Kristine wants to make it clear she's not the kind who normally shows up "up at the promise of nude women." Her office overlooks Pegasus Park, she says, "so it was a quick trip down the elevator from the 13th floor to catch the action." Such as it was. Her report, and the blurriest photo ever taken with a new cell phone, is after the jump. --Robert Wilonsky

There were three young women sitting atop a faked-up bed covered with red and white sheets. They had their top halves clothed only in large pink and red heart-shaped signs, which I didn't carefully read but, as I recall, had something negative to say about fur. Their bottom halves were wrapped in a red sheet. And they were waving at the crowd like parade queens.

Their colleagues spent the time handing out anti-fur literature, complete with really gory photos of injured animals. They quickly ran out because of the sudden heavy foot traffic like I've never seen at the lunch hour there. I'm told PETA pulled a similar stunt when the circus was in town. I guess the point this time was "Don't give your Valentine fur." OK.

In short, this was totally a publicity stunt with no real nudity or photography shooting going on -- except by the media. The Startlegram sent a photog, and the DMN sent a videographer. And there were plenty of construction workers with camera phones.

This was the extent of PETA's nude-in this afternoon in downtown. Wow. Amazing. Sensational. There's gotta be more, right?
