Police Need Help Finding Asshole Who Forced Out Mother, 1-Year-Old During Carjacking
At about 2 p.m. Sunday, a Latino man in his early 30s, his head bald and both arms covered with tattoos, pocketed a $10 T-shirt, a pair of Starter tennis shoes and a DVD player from Walmart on Cockrell Hill Road. On his way out of the store, he was stopped by an off-duty police officer and placed under arrest. But when the officer tried to handcuff him, the man pushed away, grabbed the merchandise and fled.
The officer chased him across the street, behind the Golden Corral, then to the Whataburger, then back across the street to Starbucks, where a woman and her 1-year-old child were waiting in a Ford Fusion. The man jumped into the driver's seat and, the woman striking him from the passenger seat, sped onto Cockrell Hill Road, where he wove into oncoming traffic before turning onto Interstate 30. There, he stopped and forced the woman out of the car, waiting long enough for her to remove the infant from the car seat before driving away.
Police have surveillance footage from the Walmart but need help identifying the carjacker. He is about 5-feet-9, 185 pounds and was last seen wearing a gray Texas Longhorns hat, khaki pants and a dark shirt. Anyone with information on the man's identity should call Detective Scoggins of the Southwest Investigative Unit at 214-670-7471.
