Earlier this week, the Houston Astros called up Max Stassi from the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks. On Tuesday, he made his Major League Debut against the Rangers, going a solid 2-3. On Wednesday, he faced Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers. Things did not go very well.
On the SportsCenter replay, fast-forward to about the :12 second mark on the video and you'll see what we mean. It's the top of the eighth inning, bases loaded, two outs. Scheppers, working from the stretch, throws a first-pitch, 96 mph fastball straight into Stassi's face. Stassi was taken to the hospital, where he was kept for observation overnight. On the bright side, Stassi's free trip to first drove in his first Major League RBI.
