Ravens Cornerback Tells Dez Bryant to "Be a Man," Echoing Every Cowboys Fan Ever
Bryant, post-drop, pre-bitching.
Toward the end of yesterday's Cowboys game, there was a two-play sequence that more or less captured the career of receiver Dez Bryant. After Bryant hauled in a touchdown catch to pull Dallas to within two, Tony Romo chucked a perfect ball into Bryant's chest, a pass that should have tied the game with 30 seconds to go.
Bryant dropped it, the Cowboys went on to lose. Tough loss, not an embarrassing loss. End of story. Only not.
As the ball ricocheted off his pads, Bryant immediately started looking around for a pass-interference penalty, throwing his arms out, screaming for the call. No penalty was called because none was committed -- and even if one had been, Bryant remained in perfect position to catch the ball. Still, after the game, he insisted to USA Today he'd been interfered with:
"I felt like it was a P.I. My opinion," said Bryant, visibly upset after a 31-29 loss which dropped Dallas to 2-3. "Not saying I couldn't catch it, because I feel like I can make difficult catches. But I feel like he put his arm around me. I haven't seen the play yet. But it wasn't called."
Then USA Today talked to the guy covering Bryant, cornerback Cary Williams, who said what so many Cowboys fans have been saying for so long:
"Dez is a great player, but it wasn't pass interference. It's two players going at it. And the referees let it happen. It is what it is, man. I didn't get my hand in there early, he just needed to catch the ball. I was able to make the play and he didn't. Kudos to me.
"He needs to step up and be a man. You can't be a baby about stuff. You've got to man up. It's one on one. Mano-a-mano. I got you. Sometimes you're going to win. Sometimes you're going to lose.
"You've just got to be a man and accept responsibility, give credit where credit is due. If it was me I'd say, you know what, he made the play and I didn't. Bottom line. Don't complain and look for a flag, man."
