Show Up, 6/8/06
Why any good concert would start tonight before 11 p.m. is beyond me, but hey, booking concerts weeks/months in advances can backfire on occasion. One of Dallas' most legendary bands (The New Year) will perform at one of Dallas' most legendary venues (Sons of Hermann Hall), and I can only hope the band will wait until the final buzzer before hitting their first chord when they open for Steve Albini's Shellac tonight. A few blocks away, Sivion, the best (well, only) rapper I've ever heard from Forney, TX, unleashes his latest CD at Palm Beach Club. Sivion is a longtime local rapper, a smooth, Golden Age-lovin' MC, whose shine might finally come if "I Still Love Her," the single from Spring of the Songbird on his MySpace page, is any indication. See local standards Headkrack, Tahiti and Chucky Sly open for Sivion at the release show. -Sam Machkovech
