Last week, Jim and Sam wrote all about how City Hall's done fed up to here with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and their demands that Dallas repair the hell out the Trinity River levees before they get re-certified. As you're no doubt well aware by now, much of Mayor Tom, Dave Neumann and other council members' frustrations stems from the fact that at the end of 2011, Federal Emergency Management Agency will release its revised flood maps, and if the fixes -- which can't be made till another round of soil testing is completed -- aren't in by then, a whole bunch of folks owning property along the levees (some of whom happen to sit on Your City Council) will need to get pricey flood insurance.

Now, if you done signed up for the city's E-Alert system, or just stalk the city's Facebook page, you know by now that 1500 Marilla just sent word of five meetings scheduled next month to inform folks along the banks of the Mighty Trinity, that, look, you could also be up shit creek.

The City of Dallas is conducting a series of meetings to educate residents and business owners about the remapping of neighborhoods behind the Trinity River levees by FEMA.

The levees have protected the City for decades. But due to new, more stringent guidelines the levees have been decertified. The remapping may affect your property. Please attend one of the meetings to learn and ask questions.
At present, the meetings, which begin November 3, are for those living on the west side of the Trinity; the east-siders won't get their talking-to till January. You should go, if only to say hi to Schutze.
