Tom Schieffer -- you remember him, right? Former president of Your Texas Rangers. Co-owner of the team too, with some dudes named Rusty Rose and George W. Bush. Oversaw construction of the Ballpark in Arlington. Served three terms in the Texas House of Representatives. Brother of CBS' Bob. Right, that guy. Haven't heard from him in a long while, as Tom's been out of the country quite a bit in recent years serving as U.S. Ambassador to Australia from July 2001 until February 2005, then moving to the same position in Japan, a title he holds today.

Only, he won't hold it much longer: President-elect Barack Obama this week fired all of Bush's ambassadors, the Washington Post reports this morning. They have till January 20 to get their bags packed. No doubt, Schieffer will have a place to stay should he choose to return to Dallas. --Robert Wilonsky
