After eight years of sexual abstinence and stirrings of attraction for the opposite sex, Thomas, director of the Arlington-based Living Hope Ministries, says heÂ�s convinced homosexuals can change their orientation.

Charlie Rose, who teaches Sunday school to children at Dallas' Cathedral of Hope, the largest gay and lesbian congregation in the world, says a man who still has erotic thoughts about other men really hasn't changed.

Thomas listens while a panel of Southern Baptists discusses the denominationÂ�s prohibitive stance on gays and the ordination of women. Thomas traveled to the recent Southern Baptist Convention in Orlando to counter protests by Mel White, an evangelical who says heÂ�s made peace with his gayness.

Mel White accepts a pair of plastic handcuffs from Orlando police. His group Soulforce didnÂ�t have a permit to demonstrate.
