Dallas marriage therapist Kelly Simpson hopes to spearhead the "Texas initiative," a broad-based Dallas effort to promote marriage and strengthen relationships by offering classes such as those she developed for the Army.

The pro-marriage movement found its champion in President George W. Bush, whose administration sees marriage as a way to fight poverty.

State Representative Arlene Wohlgemuth, a Republican from Burleson, was pro-marriage before there was a movement, attempting to repeal no-fault divorce and pass covenant marriage laws in the Texas Legislature.

Gilbert Martinez still cringes when he thinks about marriage, but Healthy Families of San Angelo has helped him become more "marriageable," particularly to his girlfriend Jessica Amador, the mother of his two children, Isaiah (standing) and Elijah.
