When we crave unique, thoughtful and sometimes even absurd theater, we go straight to Kitchen Dog. Based out of The McKinney Avenue Contemporary’s black boxes (3120 McKinney Ave., in Uptown), Kitchen Dog has been bringing its A game to the local theater scene for more than a decade, proving time and time again that it’s the company for must-see theater. In line with that not-Neil Simon attitude is its current production of The Chairs. The classic by Eugene Ionesco is a tragic farce of the first degree, and a cult attraction for fans of the art form. Considering this absurdist play is rarely performed stateside, you should take advantage of this chance to experience it, especially since your Kitchen Dog is doing the heavy lifting. The Chairs, starring Raphael Parry and Rhonda Boutte, takes the stage 8 p.m. Thursday at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary and runs through March 9. Tickets are $15 to $30.
