If you've ever read a classic fantasy book by the likes of Stephen King, Isaac Asimov or C.S. Lewis, you may have held on tight to the art of Japanese-born artist Kinuko Y. Craft. Matthew Abramowitz of The 4th Wall Gallery says, "Without doubt, Kinuku is one of the most revered illustration artists in the world," and frankly, after even a glimpse at her prolific work, it's easy to see why. Following her schooling at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Craft designed art for advertising, and she was recognized for her graceful attention to detail. She then began illustrating storybooks, book covers and designing posters…many of which we've lovingly thumbed over or strolled past. The 4th Wall Gallery, 2925 Fairmount St., showcases more than 45 pieces of Craft's familiar yet intriguing work through October 31 (10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays). Call 214-740-9400.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: Sept. 4. Continues through Oct. 31, 2009
