If you have a soft spot for honky tonk music but have outgrown the actual honky tonk then here's a classy way to enjoy some quality country songwriters without having to deal with the obnoxious drunks and cigarette smoke of your usual watering holes. The artists on the bill for "Live at the Majestic" aren't strictly "honky tonk"--it's just an easier way to describe their sound than the head-scratching "'70s Progressive Country" label promoters slapped on the show. And face it, they've all played their fair share of honky tonks. Michael Martin Murphey headlines the bill with a 90-minute show and Rusty Wier, Gary P. Nunn and Michael Hearne and SXSW featuring Bill and Bonnie Hearne each play 45-minute opening sets. The entire show will be filmed for an upcoming documentary about said '70s Progressive Country movement and the current plan calls for each act's set to be released individually as a DVD/CD package so you can relive the evening and maybe even catch a glimpse of yourself in the audience. "Live at the Majestic" starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets are $62 to $77. Call 214-373-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com.
Sat., Aug. 4, 6:30 p.m.
