Winter is on its way, leaves will fall and all sorts of traditions will seasonally celebrate ghosts, spirits and that which is otherwise dead or dying. While we here in the States are used to dressing as ghosts, zombies and vampires, some Americans seem to think the Mexican "Day of the Dead" traditions (of elaborate altars commemorating those who have died, colorful social settings and an abundance of food, drink and friends) are a bit odd. However, thanks in part to some really cool images and iconography, it's catching on, and Bath House Cultural Center takes part in the festivities by presenting the 20th Annual Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) art exhibition. This year's exhibition features 70 local, regional, national and international artists from Mexico, Paraguay, Japan, Norway and Colombia contributing 80 pieces of traditional and contemporary styles to a collection of altars, sculpture, painting, photography and contemporary mixed media. The exhibit runs Saturday through November 11 and is free to the public. The Bath House Cultural Center is located on White Rock Lake at 521 E. Lawther Dr. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 214-670-8749 or visit bathhousecultural.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-6 p.m. Starts: Oct. 21. Continues through Nov. 11
