It's not easy to gain in-depth knowledge of Mexico's Tarahumara Indians, who originally retreated into the mountains to avoid Spanish slavery and missionization. The rough terrain has kept the Tarahumara, many of whom still live in mountainside caves, largely isolated. Their wariness of outsiders is well documented, so the fact that photographer Kitty Alice Snead was able to capture them extensively on film is no small feat. Portraits of the Tarahumara opens Saturday in the main gallery of the Bathhouse Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Drive. An artists reception is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday with a free concert at 8 p.m. Call 214-670-8749. --Cheryl Smith

Mr. Mayor

A hard-nosed pragmatist with a huge heart and unflappable optimism--that's the Rudolph Giuliani most of America and the world came to admire after 9-11. Is that the real Giuliani? Who cares? The man helped calm the nation after the towers fell, which is reason enough to go hear him speak at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the 10th Anniversary Mother's Day Luncheon for Genesis Women's Shelter at the Hyatt Regency Reunion. Need another? Proceeds benefit the shelter. Tickets start at $100 each or $1,500 for a table of 10. Call 214-559-2050 for information. --Patrick Williams

Backseat Drivers
Limos are rolling bastions of decadence: from rock star snow sniffle to noisy bachelor and bachelorette party sunroof spillage to compulsive pre-red carpet Tinsel Town preening. But, on May 4, they will be for scavenger hunting when more than 50 limos holding teams of eight snoops each will scour Dallas for strategically planted clues such as what Oscar-winning film clips are playing in the media room at the Great Indoors (no red carpet required). The second annual Code Red Caper to benefit Bryan's House, an AIDS/HIV respite, will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at TBC Indoor Racing, 8625 N. Stemmons Freeway. Call 214-559-3946, ext. 126. --Mark Stuertz

Rockin' Soap Star

At first we thought it was a joke. No way was Ned Ashton coming all the way from Port Charles to play a concert in Dallas. How could he? There is way too much drama happening at General Hospital for him to be making such a long trip. Wait, what's that? General Hospital is a TV show, and all the actors are merely playing characters? Whatever. On May 3 at 1 p.m., Ashton (a.k.a. Wally Kurth) and his band are coming to Dick's Last Resort (corner of Ross and Record in the West End) to play a benefit concert for Bryan's House and the Kurth & Taylor Foundation. General admission is $35, and VIP tickets are $65. Call 214-559-3946. --Rhonda Reinhart
