From a survey we conducted among preschoolers, we gathered this informative fact about nutrition: Ten out of 10 do not balk at consuming unidentifiable items found on the ground.

OK, so maybe we didn't really ask kids about their eating habits, but we do have fond memories of our younger days. We would never consider including these things on our menus nowadays, but as adults, we still often cheat ourselves out of satisfying food. If you've had cold coffee and Pop-Tarts for lunch, listen up. Dean Fearing, chef from The Mansion on Turtle Creek, is hosting a behind-the-scenes look at his cooking show Dean's Cuisine. During the taping, Fearing will whip up dishes such as pan-fried corn bread quail and brown butter berry tart, paired with wines. Heck, no more excuses for mustard sandwiches. The event is 7 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $75 for taping and a four-course meal with wine. The Mansion on Turtle Creek, 2821 Turtle Creek Blvd. Call 214-559-2100.--Michelle Martinez

Third Time's a Charm
Third birthdays aren't generally the epitome of artistic sophistication. But rather than the usual afternoon of birthday cake, Granny picking up gift wrappings and, of course, a 3-year-old wailing at some point, PLUSH gallery celebrates its big three with a soiree that's more upscale, but still as enthusiastic as a toddler. The gallery touts the "suburban surrealist" exhibit of Marcia Alaniz's 22 Dolls and Mom, and a collaborative exhibit of gallery artists called 33-1/3, at its anniversary and opening reception combo from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. Val Emmich, also slated for Austin's SXSW, will perform at 9. PLUSH is located at 1410 S. Akard St. Call 214-498-5423. --Merritt Martin

Upon a Star
It wasn't a matter of whether Joan Davidow would put her personal stamp on the Dallas Center for Contemporary Art. It was a matter of how quickly. She's already cinching up her tiny belt for the Contemporary's second art auction and exhibition. A gala, with live and silent bidding, elbow-jostling with artists and a theme party with revelers dressed in color-coordinated flounce, may have started at the Arlington Museum of Art, but it's thriving in Dallas. This year's theme icon is the wishbone with ivory attire suggested. The Wish! Annual Art Auction Exhibition and Party features the work of 90 Texas artists. The party at the Contemporary, 2801 Swiss Ave., is 6:30 p.m. to midnight March 22. Admission is $30 to $50. Get a sneak peek at the exhibit Thursday through party time.
