The Presidential elections are a moment to gather, drink, and watch as Florida inevitably ruins everything for everyone. But you can't do that from your couch. You have to apply "scary movie rules" for nights like these.
1.) Be around friends. 2.) Select a venue with more than one exit, in case some ancient seals get blown open. 3.) Don't leave early; there's bound to be a twist ending.
We found eight parties that satisfy this short list of demands. But before you pick out tonight's spot to hunker down, go vote. Not sure if you're eligible? Don't know where your polling location is? Granada -- It's the D Magazine Election Party featuring Burning Hotels, AiR DeeJay of Track Meet and Paris Vidal. Five bucks gets you in and they're having a non-censored Twitter screen (which will get uncomfortable for everyone), rolling along with live election coverage. It's a non-partisan affair, so you might want to ask the big question before drunkenly making out with a stranger, or face an awkward morning-after. It runs from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
Round-Up Saloon -- The Stonewall Democrats, HRC and Equality Texas bootscoot their way through the coverage at this Cedar Springs honky-tonk. If you're a hard left leaner, watch the coverage here, on the Round-Up's giant screen. There will be light food and drink specials, music and special guests. It runs from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
The People's Last Stand -- Voting for whichever candidate you could share an heirloom cocktail recipe with? This is the party for you. It's a non-partisan joint, and you'll need proof that you voted to gain access to drink specials. It's like a drunk secret society.
Central 214 -- You're invited to watch the results trickle in on Central 214's patio this evening, where you can self-identify with either "RedRom" (Laird's Applejack, Fresh lemon juice, pomegranate & cranberry extract, garnished with lemon zest) or "BluBama" (Tito's vodka, black currant cordial, Blue Curaçao, fresh lemon, a splash of cranberry, topped off with soda) cocktails for $7 each. There's also a special ballot menu, with $5 apps, $10 entrees and $5 desserts.
Dallas County Democratic Party Election Bash at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Dallas -- This ones for you blue voters. There's a cash bar, complimentary appetizers and special room rates, just in case politics make you oddly frisky. This one goes until the last vote is cast. (You might want to bring a sleeping bag.)
Dallas County Republican Watch Party at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Center -- If you're hoping to flip tables at the White House tonight, join the rest of team Romney/Ryan at this swank get-together. They'll have hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar, with valet and self-parking available for an additional fee. Wanna go? RSVP here.
Eno's Pizza Tavern -- Details are still a bit vague, but this double decker pizza den will show local and national coverage, have some entertainment and fill you up with carbs and booze. It crosses party lines, so be nice to everyone.
Omni Hotel -- Don't kid yourself: This party is for the 1%. The Omni invites you to guzzle down a Red Rush, a Blue Crush or a Mudslinging Martini tonight under the building's psychedelic light show.
