Our local fashion designers spend their lives toiling over pleats and hemlines. It's often a thanklessly driven mission. Long nights fine-tuning each stitch results in little payback unless the market drive exists to purchase those looks, and it should. Dallas is bursting at the seams with talent.
This Sunday, July 16th, the NBC program Fashion Star will hold a casting call at Macy's in NorthPark Center. Each aspiring contestant is asked to bring 2 to 10 pieces of original, ready-to-wear designs from their current portfolio to the event, which begins at 11:30 a.m. on Level 2 of the store's furniture department. Judges will pick through the entries searching for talent for next season's designer line-up, personally I'd like to see a strong Dallas showing. Runway events like Fashion's Living Canvas and the Pin Show have proven that our fabric artists can compete on a national level, and there's no greater exposure for a brand than free air time on network television. Dallas is one of only seven cities in the country holding this casting call, so they expect us to produce as competitively as New York, Miami and other key markets. Let's do even better: let's blow them off the map.
