Sometimes fame can be had by simply being related to someone famous. This was Charlie Murphy's lot in life before he became a supporting cast member of Chappelle's Show. His pièce de résistance would have to be "Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories." In these skits, he recounts tales of his past, mostly those that happened while hanging out with his brother, Eddie...wait, do his stories really need to be explained? The stories, and Dave Chappelle's re-enactments of them, instantly became part of our pop culture. From playing basketball with Prince to being slapped by Rick James, just about everyone is familiar with thesemost notably the insane stories of a cocaine-inspired Rick James. How many times have we heard someone at a bar claim to be "Rick James, bitch?" Thankfully, that annoying fad is on the decline. Stemming from his stint on Chappelle's Show, Murphy has taken his stand-up show on the road, performing on the U.S. comedy club, college, casino and theater circuit. No doubt the stories are a big part of his act. Charlie Murphy appears Friday through Sunday at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road in Addison. Tickets are $30.
