Getting Very Sleepy

For many, an evening watching actors in period costumes hoof it and sing bouncy tunes is heavenly. For others, it sounds like the ninth circle of hell. If you're in the latter bunch, is The Drowsy Chaperone, a comic musical-within-a-play set to a 1920s beat going to change your mind?...

For many, an evening watching actors in period costumes hoof it and sing bouncy tunes is heavenly. For others, it sounds like the ninth circle of hell. If you're in the latter bunch, is The Drowsy Chaperone, a comic musical-within-a-play set to a 1920s beat going to change your mind? Let's see: Jazzy, showy songs? Check. Plenty of tap, tap, tap dancing? Check. A wacky plot (about a stage starlet who wants to give up the footlights to marry her man) with plenty of broad humor and a guaranteed happy ending? Check. OK, so it doesn't sound like a game-changer for those who loathe musicals, but the people who like them love this Tony Award winner. The Drowsy Chaperone, part of Dallas Summer Musicals, runs Tuesday through June 15 at the Music Hall at Fair Park. Tickets are $18 to $84. For more info, visit dallassummermusicals.org.
