Mother's Day celebratory activities usually go as follows: maybe church, maybe brunch (or one of the three squares) at a pricey steak house, or, if your mom is anything like mine, open-to-close shopping at DSW. If you are looking for something different to do this year to celebrate the most important woman in your life, look no further than the Swiss Avenue Historic District Mother's Day Home Tour. While it may seem somewhat cruel to parade Mom through a tour of homes the likes of which most normal people will never come close to owning, this weekend-long fete will feature live entertainment, an art fair, food and the opportunity for a Mother's Day brunch (for only $20!) catered by Penne Pomodoro. The 38th annual event kicks off Saturday (hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and will continue on Mother's Day from noon to 6 p.m. For tickets, brunch reservations and more information, visit sahd.org/hometour.
Sat., May 7, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Sun., May 8, 12-6 p.m., 2011
