Mars living is a joyless affair for its native children, and it’s easy to understand why: There’s no Santa. Why, he’s marooned way down on Earth, tinkering away at the North Pole while those poor little alien youths sit twirling their thumbs, bored as all git-up. Well, not anymore. Not if Kilmar, the head of the martian people, has anything to say about it — or at least that’s the story that Santa Claus vs. the Martians, a stage adaptation of a similarly-titled 1964 sci-flop, would like to convince you. The show’s in its final stretch at Level Ground Arts at KD Studio Theatre (Trinity River Arts Theatre, 2600 N. Stemmons Freeway), running on Friday and Saturday nights through December 29, and has been laser beaming in the positive reviews by local critics. They’re digging on writer/director Andi Allen’s campy, low-budget wink at an already scoffed-at early model film in which scrubs are used as space suits and tin foil finds its way into everything.
