Jeanne Robertson is absolutely not a comedian. Says so in her bio and in the press release for her upcoming appearance at the Lakewood Theater, where many comedians--but not Robertson, because she isn't one--often perform. Couldn't be clearer: "Jeanne Robertson is a professional speaker who specializes in hilarious humor based on her life experiences." You may call Robertson many things, like "sassy" or "brassy" or other choice, adorably southern psuedo-compliments for women who talk about things other than babies and iced tea, but please, no comedy innuendo. After all, she is the winner of a Golden Gavel Award from Toastmasters International. Sure, Robertson tells humorous anecdotes with a topic, premise and punchline, but once again, we repeat, she is not a comedian. Because they don't put comedians on the cover of Speaker magazine. Polish up your decorous amusement bone and see Robertson speak--not perform--at the historic Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Pkwy. this Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $28.50. Visit LakewoodTheater.com.
