Last year we accompanied some tykes to the Day Out With Thomas festivities at Grapevine's Cotton Belt Depot. Unfortunately we didn't have tickets for the train ride on Thomas, which is the coolest part, so we just made bubbles in pits of soapy water and hung out with Bob the Builder (Cool dude, that Bob the Builder). A couple months later the news hit that Thomas the Tank Engine toys were among the lead-tainted kiddie products from the great nation of China. So that's why kids like Thomas so much—lead poisoning. We kid, we kid. After all, we're no strangers to the childhood train fetish—our poor mother probably read us The Little Engine That Could a million times growing up. This year Thomas pulls into the station again along with his friend Sir Topham Hatt, storytelling, live children's music, arts and crafts, temporary tattoos and every parent's favorite—the "retail area." A Day Out With Thomas is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through April 6. Tickets for the train ride are $18. The Cotton Belt Depot is located at 705 S. Main St. in Grapevine. Call 214-428-0101 or visit gvrr.com.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: March 28. Continues through April 6, 2008
