We find this time of year a little dark. Yes, the world is wrapped in tinsel and has a festive soundtrack, but we are also trampling and getting trampled for discounted electronics. That strangeness can be found in the classic holiday ballet The Nutcracker, which itself is both beautiful and twisted. It features battling rats, living dolls and a Sugar Plum Fairy, and it wouldn’t be Christmas without it. The Moscow Ballet’s lush scenery, fanciful costumes and accomplished dancers tell the story and help us welcome the holiday season in all of its beauty and strangeness. The Moscow Ballet’s The Great Russian Nutcracker is 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday at SMU’s McFarlin Auditorium, 6405 Boaz Lane. Tickets are $28 to $88.
