This weekend, a trip to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth could take you much farther, when the Modern presents In the Shadow of the Moon (2007) as part of the Magnolia at the Modern film series. The surviving crew members from NASA's nine Apollo missions, which went to the moon between 1968 and 1972, tell their stories in this David Sington-directed documentary that won the audience award in the World Cinema—Documentary category at Sundance this year. I think I can safely say that we're all pretty fascinated by the idea of going to the moon, and listening to the astronauts in this film talk about it is as close as most of us will get. All 12 walked on the moon's surface and, to this day, they remain the only human beings to have done so. In the Shadow of the Moon plays 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday. Look out for other interesting upcoming offerings in the Modern's series of critically acclaimed films, including the highly touted documentary, Jimmy Carter Man From Plains in January. Tickets are $8.50, $6.50 for Modern members. The film is rated PG for mild language, brief violent images and incidental smoking (really?!).
