Anyone who's taken a leisurely 90-mph drive down Woodall Rogers Freeway recently has to have noticed the bajillion-dollar expansion of the Dallas Arts District. Sure, we'll always be the Kennedy assassination site and home to J.R. to all the willfully ignorant boors of the world who still think everyone in Texas rides horses to work, but Dallasites know that our arts district is the bomb-dot-com. Dedicated to diversity, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra has teamed up with the Dallas Black Dance Theater for the 2008 African American Festival this Friday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. Benefiting DSO and DBDT kids' programs, the festival features a special music and dance performance, "Primary Movements." Doors open at 6 p.m. with activities for kids and visual art for grown-ups, plus jazz music from Ascension Entertainment. Tickets are $10. Visit DallasSymphony.org.
Fri., June 20, 6 p.m., 2008
