The concept of genius is one that has somehow become fluid. The guy at the jukebox who just played the Replacements song that fits your mood perfectly: totally a genius. Michael Gruber's artful use of drops on KTCK-AM 1310 The Ticket: yep, freakin' genius. But clearly, the term has become relative to our expectations in a given situation and is no longer exclusively reserved for the tiny section of the population that is actually exceptionally intellectually gifted. In other words, strictly speaking, Dirk Nowitzki is probably not a genius. Glenn Gould, however, really was the kind of person who can correctly be characterized by the G-word. The Canadian musician, who died in the early '80s, was a true piano prodigy whose interpretations of Bach were so mind-blowing they were sent into space on Voyager I. Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould takes a look at the uncanny pianist whose rock-star looks, congenial personality and various eccentricities combined to make him one of the most memorable musical geniuses of the century. The film plays at the The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St., at 6 and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $8.50, or $6.50 for Modern members.
