Screw Bella and the Pacific Northwest; Twilight's gone dark. But apparently, lovers of young adult vampire fiction (read: students, Goths, moms, retirees, backyard wrestlers, hipsters, aliens, ranch hands, etc.) needn't resort to bloodletting, thanks to the Morganville Vampire series by Fort Worth author Rachel Caine. Set in the fictional town of Morganville, Texas, the books center around brainy college kid Claire Danvers, her fellow co-eds and more bloodsuckers than you can shake a stake at. NAL/Penguin Books lauds the series as True Blood meets Gossip Girl, but we're willing to bet there's less sex and way less crotch-length fashion than that comparison implies. Celebrate the release of the ninth installment, Ghost Town, as Caine reads a selection and signs copies 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble, 1430 Plaza Place in Southlake. Call 817-442-0207 for info, but with a Facebook quiz showing Morganville in a serious lead over Forks, there's probably not much more you need to know.
