Whoever said variety is the spice of life had definitely seen a good burlesque show. Because you know, a burlesque revue is essentially a variety show filled with jokes out-to-there, dance numbers down-to-there, and spicy, sultry talent through the roof. So the fifth annual Dallas Burlesque Festival is pretty much the solid gold (precious metal and Lycra dance show references intended) va-va-valentine for the DFW burlesque lover. The festival features saucy performances by the Ruby Revue, Roxie Le Rouge, Melissa Meaow, April Showers, Black Mariah, Alia, Houston Burlesque Revue, Jasper St. James (it’s not just about the ladies, folks), Russell Bruner, and many others. The festival itself takes place at 9 p.m. Saturday (18 and up; tickets are $18.75 to $100), but offers a weekend’s worth of caliente cabaret as Friday night also offers the Ruby Revue’s Texas Tease Show festival opener at 10 p.m. (21 and up; $40). Both nights take place at the House of Blues (2200 N. Lamar St.). Visit dallasburlesquefest.com for details on which night each performer/troupe takes the stage and for ticket info for Sunday night’s awards dinner.
