After the last two installments of Vinyl Thoughts, it feels impossible for the party to get better. Weirder. More creative. How do you outdo giant Lego sculptures, dozens of homemade works of collectable art and breakdancing? Oh, by moving to a larger venue and adding a second day’s worth of activity, that’s how. The actual event, where local and international artists hand-carve and paint vinyl toys, then display them proudly for sale, is 7 p.m. Thursday. It’s going to be illustration-themed, so imagine characters from your favorite works of literature retold through this toy statue genre, or think 2-D art painted on 3-D objects. Or don’t think at all and just be wildly surprised. It all works. It’s free to attend with complimentary beverages and giveaways, and lots of stuff you’ll want to blow your cash on. Local animation company Reel FX is making 10 auction items to benefit Art Love Magic’s kids’ programs, so maybe grab one of those? Thursday’s fun goes down at Life In Deep Ellum, located at 2803 Taylor St. Then from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, you can watch the masters work at vinyl toy store ATAMA (5307 Mockingbird Lane Suite 140). Kid Robot’s own RSIN will be working on a project for New York Comic Con, while Motorbot and JFURY wrap up a Dunny and Mega Munny. Those last two will be auctioned off at the end of the night.
