Sure, we love critics, but we love our word of mouth even more, and rumor (interwebs and otherwise) says that Mark Campbell's Songs from an Unmade Bed is a pretty awesome...er, rather, a "must-see" this season. Not your "typical" musical, Songs from an Unmade Bed is the product of a unique collaboration regarding something we all have an investment in: life. Campbell, a well-loved lyricist, joined forces with 18 different cabaret composers for this off-Broadway hit, which tells the story of a man looking for love in New York's gay scene using a neo-traditional song cycle. Though the lead is a single gay man living the big city life, audiences gay or straight can relate to the ups and downs of relationship, and the singers, accompanied by piano and cello, tell a truly human tale. Check out the opening of Songs from an Unmade Bed Friday at 8 p.m. at Theatre 3 in the Quadrangle, 2800 Routh Street #168. Opening weekend features evening performances through Sunday with a Sunday matinee. The play runs through Sunday, October 3, with regularly scheduled performances 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2:30 p.m. Sundays in Theater Too. Tickets are $20 to $30.
