When Artadia Award recipient David Aylsworth creates a painting, he thinks of the forms as characters, interacting with each other in a theatrical performance. And, more specifically, his latest paintings reference the lightheartedness of musical theater in particular. How appropriate, then, that the title of his new solo exhibition should be That Thing That Makes Vines Prefer to Cling, a lyric from a Cole Porter song. "You've got that kiss, that kiss that warms," the song goes, "that makes reformers reform reforms." Yikes. Good thing that line wasn't chosen for the title. Check out Aylsworth's newest works, on display at Holly Johnson Gallery, 1411 Dragon St., through June 12. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
