Good comedians are funny. Great comedians can work the crowd. The key to doing it right seems to be balance: You’ve gotta do a little more than a lazy, rhetorical “How’s everybody doing tonight?” without going all Dave Chapelle from The Nutty Professor. Texan comedian Raj Sharma is one of those rare few who gets it right. No matter what some drunken idiot in the crowd shouts at him, he’s ready with a quick zinger, and then it’s back to his routine. Much of Sharma’s material comes from his being raised in a traditional Hindu household, so, yes, you can expect imitations of his well-meaning, overly traditional grandmother. Luckily, that bit never gets old. See Sharma do his Xmas Special at the Addison Improv, 4980 Belt Line Road, Thursday through Saturday. Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursday; 6:30 p.m., 9 p.m., and 11:30 p.m. Friday; and 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $15-20, and you can get them online at improv.com. For more information, call 972-404-8501, or go to improv.com.
Thu., Dec. 22, 8 p.m.; Fri., Dec. 23, 6:30, 9 & 11:30 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 25, 6:30 p.m., 2011
