When it comes to playing hard to get, the title character in Puccini’s Turandot takes the game to a whole new, more deadly level. If potential suitors don’t answer the beautiful queen’s three riddles correctly, well, it’s off with their heads. You can catch opening night of The Dallas Opera’s extravagant new production of Turandot at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Winspear Opera House (2403 Flora St.). The opera, set in ancient China, tells the story of a young prince who survives Turnadot’s gauntlet of love, ultimately capturing her hand and heart. This opera contains one of the world’s most recognizable melodies in the aria “Nessun Dorma.” Made famous by tenors like Pavarotti and Domingo, the sweeping, soaring notes of this song are impossible to resist, much like Turandot herself. Tickets for opening night range from $19 to $247. More information is at dallasopera.org.
