The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is a force to be reckoned with in specialty cinema, especially since their Magnolia at the Modern series provides Cowtown's only real outlet for independent film. With all those museums and that resplendent downtown, you would think they'd consider an indie movie theater somewhere. The museum also hosts the annual Modern Cinema movie festival, a week of "great movies you haven't heard of," as well as the four-part lecture and film series, "American Cinema: Film Noir and the Detective Film," hosted by TCU professor Dr. David E. Whitlock (who must be on track to becoming the coolest teacher on campus with these classroom sessions). His next lecture, "Literature and Film: Problems of Adaptation," is accompanied by the 1946 Bogey and Bacall classic, The Big Sleep. Class starts 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St., with a Q&A session after. It's free, but seating is first come, first serve.
